Full time Beauty Specialist course:


This is the first step to completing the health and skincare qualification.  It deals with all Aesthetic aspects of beauty.  All theoretical and practical sessions of this year are completed at the college.  In addition the students are required to complete a number of case studies, do a project and complete a business plan. After completion of the Beauty Specialist course on a full time basis the learner can apply for employment in the industry.  The learner can then carry on their studies on a part time modular basis to complete the health and skincare qualification.

Entry

We accept learners with a grade ten level schooling.  Matric will be preferable but not necessary.    

Practical and Theoretical Subjects

Skincare and eye treatments:

This subject is completed both theoretically and practically and deals with facial therapy and all its aspects.  The learner will study all theoretical components of facial therapy and complete practical skills from a basic level to an advanced facial treatment.  

Manicure & Pedicure treatments:

This subject is completed both theoretically and practically and deals with all aspects of manicures and pedicures.  The learner will study all theoretical components of manicures and pedicures and complete practical skills from a basic mani/pedi treatment to an advanced spa manicure or pedicure treatment.  

Depilation:

This subject is completed both theoretically and practically and deals with all aspects of waxing.  The learner will study all theoretical components of waxing treatments and complete practical skills for all forms of waxing on various areas of the body.  

Make-up:

This subject is completed both theoretically and practically and deals with all aspects of make-up applications.  The learner will study all theoretical components of make-up and complete practical skills for applying day-, evening-; bridal-; and special occasion make up.

Full body massage:

This subject is completed both theoretically and practically and deals with all aspects of full body massage.  The learner will study theoretical components and complete practical skills for performing a full body massage.  

Full body exfoliations and body wraps:

This subjects serves as an introductory level of training to complete body exfoliations and body wraps in the salon or spa.  Industry training will take place in the workplace on the relevant products and methods used in the spa.  


Theoretical Subjects

Anatomy and Physiology:

Anatomy and physiology deals with all structural and functional aspects of the human body.  It enables the learner to understand how the body works and what relation it has to treating someone therapeutically.  

Professional conduct and business awareness:

This subjects deals with all aspects of business and professional ethics.  It enables the learner to start in the industry with a foundational understanding of business (specific to our industry).  

Hygiene and Sterilization:

This subjects deal with various aspects of applied hygiene and sterilization methods in the workplace.  Learners will learn about microbiology, infection control and sterilization methods.

Cosmetic chemistry:

This subject deals with various aspects of cosmetic science in terms of the products and preparations used in therapy, as well as understanding the different ingredients used in the therapeutic field.
